Every month the committee awards the ‘Competitor of the Month’ award to someone who has achieved something great in their motor sport. It doesn’t have to be first place, sometimes overcoming adversity (or is that reliability?) is enough. We’ll send you a voucher for £20 too. Tell us what you’ve been up to each month by email.

  • May Competitor Of The Month – Martin Pickles

Martin was on top form with his Jedi 988 during May. The Blyton Sprint in mid-May brought a 1st in class on the Saturday followed by 2nd in class on the Sunday but this was topped by  FTD at the Crystal Palace Motorsport at The Palace sprint over the bank holiday weekend.

  • April Competitor Of The Month – Rob Collard

It hasn’t taken Rob long to get used to front wheel drive again with 3 top ten finishes at Donington, the second round of the 2019 BTCC championship. The highlight of the day was 2nd in race 3.

  • March Competitor Of The Month – Declan Dear

Going one better than last year, Declan and Matthew Hirst won the Rally Of North Wales outright this year, securing their first ever rally win together in their Mitsubishi Evo IX. It’s back to tarmac for their next event with the Clacton Rally.

  • February Competitor Of The Month – Joseph Keen

Joseph competed in his first ever gravel rally on the Cambrian Rally in North Wales in mid-February. The stage conditions were very challenging, some were dry & dusty with good grip while others were slippery mud & badly rutted in places but despite the changing conditions he came 1st in the RF1 class.

  • November Competitor Of The Month – Mark Bullen

Early November saw Mark Bullen cross the channel to compete on the Rallye Des 7 Vallées D’Artois in his BMW Rivett, complete with his SCMC fan club (see the latest Spotlight magazine for more details). Competing against much newer, expensive technically advanced machinery, Mark finished an impressive 24th o/all from 85 starters, also finishing 2ndBritish crew out of 15.

  • September Competitor Of The Month – Dale Huxford

Armed with his replacement second-hand 1500cc, £250 engine, which is slower than his old 1300cc (the old 1300cc had decided that it didn’t want be together anymore and is now in many pieces !!), Dale showed that he’s lost none of his skill and pushed the Spitfire to its limits to finish 2nd in class at Gurston in September.

  • July Competitor Of The Month – Angelica Fuentes

Proving that it’s not all about speed and power, Angelica used the Mainland’s immaculate Austin Minisport to win the SCMC run Summertime Consistency Trial at the RAC club, Epsom. Angelica used her navigation timing skills to have a time difference of less than 0.5 secs across the two runs.

  • June Competitor Of The Month – Graeme Bell & Russ Radford

Abingdon CAR-nival Stages 2017 Winners Graham Bell and Russ Radford put up a great fight in the Proton Satira Neo to try and regain their title on the 22nd running of the event but they just finished a few seconds behind the pocket rocket Darrian GTR of Chris Woodhouse, after both competitors had been tied on stage times after 5 stages during a day long battle for the win.

  • May Competitor Of The Month – Joint Winners – Ryan Stutchbury & Martin Pickles

Ryan took a fantastic A final win with his 205 at Pembrey’s BTRDA Historic Rallycross in mid May and Martin won his class at Blyton, just missing out on FTD with his Jedi 988.

  • April Competitor Of The Month – Mark Straker

Mark used his new Darrian T90 GT on England’s first closed road event the Tendring & Clacton stages on April 22nd. Mark finished an excellent 4th o/all against much more powerful WRC machinery and then followed this result up the following weekend with 3rd o/all on the Horiba D’Isis rally at MIRA.

  • March Competitor Of The Month – Declan Dear

Following the disappointment of the postponement of the Malcolm Wilson stages in early March, Declan and Matthew Hirst got their season back on track with an excellent 2nd o/all in the 4WD category of the Rally Of North Wales.
