AWARDS DINNER

Declan takes top honours…

Declan Dear was awarded the coveted Competitor of the Year Award at the recent Annual Awards Dinner held at the sumptuous Tyrells Wood Golf Club.

In an evening designed to thank, honour and applaud both the Competitors and the Officials of the club, the Awards Dinner is one of the highlights of the social calendar and a ‘bloody good reason’ to get dressed up’.

The evening included a ‘Behind the Scenes’ interview with McLaren F1 Race Operations Director and long-time club member Mark Norris who chatted freely about the resurgence of the Woking-based Team along with recollections of both his best and worst days at the pinnacle for world motor sport.

After the interview a number of club members were honoured with Dave Woods receiving elevation to life membership after over 40 years of service.

This years Bazza Awards were presented to both Club President Chris Phillips and Club Chairman Ian Brooks for individual acts of stupidity during the course of last year whilst Pam Guess collected the Cosgrove Trophy, awarded for her behind the scenes activities at Abingdon

Paul Hopkins was awarded Sporting Driver of the Year whilst Rob Dennis was named Rally Driver of the Year after a successful outing on a number of events in 2019.

Sue Fielding picked up the Club Official of the Year whilst Kirsten Stutchbury was rewarded with the Mark II Motorsport Trophy for her work on behalf of the clubs competitors.

The Greville Award went to Dale Huxford for his superb ‘Sutton & Cheam Motor Club’ YouTube Channel, broadcasting live pictures and sound from the clubs events.

The most popular award however was the Competitor of the Year Trophy (along with a £200 cheque) with ace co-driver Declan Dear recounting what had been a busy 2019 Season.

In all, Declan took part in events in 4 different countries, with 4 different drivers and in 5 different cars.

The highlight was however emerging as Welsh Rally Champions in the Mitsubishi Evo.

We send our congratulations to all our winners who make us proud to be one of the premier motor clubs in the United Kingdom.
