A quick reminder that it's the start of a new membership year at Sutton & Cheam Motor Club and anyone wishing to be part of one of the South's most exciting and progressive motor clubs should visit www.scmc.co.uk for more information.Highlights of what's planned for 2024 include our prestigious (and subsidised) 65th Anniversary and Awards Dinner at the sumptuous RAC Club, Woodcote Park on 17th February, plus Team Visits to RACE RETRO in February and the FIA DRAG RACING Main Event in May, sitting alongside our Competition Car night held each summer in Guildford. These great events are 'back-to-back' and either side of hugely popular Abingdon Motorsport CAR-nival Sprint, Rally and brilliant social weekend. Also in April, there will be an organised Team Tempest Guided Trip to Top French Off-road event near Paris, a chance to see some brilliant competition cars in action, a type of event that simply does not exist in the UK And in November of course, there's our major part in running the iconic London to Brighton Veteran Car Run as well, the oldest motoring event in the world - It's all going on at Sutton & Cheam MC.With top drivers and competitors in rallying at all levels (Club to International) racing, hill climb, road rally and virtually every other type of motorised mayhem, our Team Tempest incentive puts you at the heart of club motorsport. For those without the budget to compete or just starting out, there's marshalling and organisation of quality events at the centre of our activities with our members travelling all over the UK and Europe to 'help out' wherever needed. Our quarterly magazine 'Spotlight' keeps everyone up-to-date with what's going on, with reports or special features and at over 40 pages in the last edition - there's always something for everyone so why not check out the Christmas edition featured on the front page of the website to see what Sutton & Cheam club members enjoyed over the break! For more information on how to join, why not go to www.scmc.co.uk/membership.3 months ago
On the opposite side of the UK mainland, Club members Ian and Oliver Hucklebridge excelled on the West Wales Rally Spares Jaffa Stages at Pembrey. The Escort MkII father and son team really took it to the Welsh missing out on 1st overall by just 6 seconds from Phil Turner, campaigning a ubiquitous and normally dominant Fiesta R5.Well done lads and everyone at Sutton & Cheam Motor Club are very proud of you! ... Huge congratulations to Club Members Rob Swann and Steve McNulty who recorded the first-ever outright win on the new Rixy Stages in Norfolk today. The Fiesta WRC pairing battled all day with 2nd placed 'Essex Boy' John Indri whilst our 2022 S & C MC Rally Driver of the Year Darrell Taylor claimed 3rd overall.Club up-and-coming rally star Jamie McBain exited the event after SS6, such a blow whilst lying 13th overall. Sadly things were worse for Mark Fisher whose Escort failed to record a first stage time with a dead engine - And of course in true motorsport style, it promptly burst into life unaided as soon as they unloaded it off the trailer back in Gloucestershire!A special big well done to all of the organisers of this new event, a truly worthy tribute to the late clubman rally stalwart Ian Rix. ...
